Oxyfuel combustion involves the burning of a fossil fuel energy source in the presence
of pure oxygen. Burning fuel in the presence of oxygen removes contaminants,
including nitrogen, from the exhaust stream resulting in CO2 being easier to capture.
The Process:
• Air is purified in a distillation column then sent through a heat exchanger where
the O2 is separated to extract pure oxygen.
• The pure O2 is then combusted with the fuel source and the other gases are
released.
• The exhaust from combustion in oxygen has a much higher concentration of CO
2 which can be captured.

This website is a resource of everything you may want or need to know about Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

Our website will provide you with information ranging from the basics of CCS to communication tools to research documents, reports and CCS news. It is a compilation of the best resources from companies, governments, academia, and NGOs around the world.

It also includes ICO2N information. ICO2N is a network of Canadian companies committed to the deployment of CCS to help meet climate change objectives while supporting economic growth.

CCS is a proven, technically viable and environmentally safe means of reducing greenhouse gases (GHG). It is Canada’s largest potential CO2 mitigation option and a critical part of the country’s GHG reduction and energy strategies.
