Technology Learning Curve

Carbon Capture and Storage technology, like any other technology, undergoes a price reduction as demonstration projects are deployed.  This is because information can be gathered about the technology and continuous improvement occur.  CCS costs will eventually be cut to 50% of what they are currently once project deployment occurs globally.

The graphs below show the current maturity of CCS technology, the actual learning curve for flue gas desulphurization as a benchmark and the estimated learning curve for CCS technology.  Together, these graphs show the necessity of deploying demonstration projects in order to see overall cost reductions in the long term.
